Villagers near Surat in Gujarat were in for a surprise when they found three leopard cubs in the fields. Fearing the mother would return to look for them, the farmers informed Forest Rangers who rescued the cubs.
According to Village head Devendra Patel of Ghala village, near Surat , farmers were busy working in the field when they noticed three leopard cubs in the fields. While most farmers feared that the mother was close by and would return to get its cubs, two villagers, came forward and looked after the cubs.
Meanwhile Forest Rangers were also informed.
“At around 2:30 pm, the farmers who were working in the fields saw these three leopard ubs. They ran away in fear but two villagers, Bausit Patel and Rehamanbhai Patel took he cubs and we informed the Forest Rangers,” he said.
He also adds that the irrigation department usually releases water during the night, which leads to many wild animals coming near the fields to quench their thirst. This incident too might have occurred when the mother came to drink water.
The villagers though after the initial hesitation fed the cubs milk with a feeding bottle till the rangers arrived.
Ranger Satish Purohit came and took the cubs and ensured proper care would be taken.
