What Is The Difference Between Dragonfly And Damselfly?

Dragonflies and damselflies are one of the oldest known insects in the world. These ancient animals are also one of the first to develop wings. There are about 6000 species of dragonflies in the world with over 500 species found in India.

Although the two look very similar, there are some marked differences between the two insects. There are four details that can be used to easily identify if the insect is a dragonfly or a damselfly. They are the eyes, body shape, wing shape, and position of the wings at rest.

  1. What is the gender of the Dragonfly and Damselfly? The name’s to me are self explanatory but I’ve been fooled before!
    The bug world is so interesting, but I have to say I’m extremely confused with some of these creatures and there mission in this world!!

    1. The gender of dragonfly or damselfly can be checked by looking at the abdomen. Males usually have a bump on the 2nd segment whereas female don’t have this. Males are also brighter in colour than females. Hope this is helpful.
