Nestled between large barren mountains in the small Chamoli village of Uttarakhand, there is a patch of green with tall oak, walnut, deodar and other trees looking heavenwards. If these trees could speak they would only say thanks to one man named Narain Singh Negi who spent last 40 years of his life planting more than 9 lakh trees and creating a man-made forest.
Rescued from fishing net off the coast of Gujarat, a whale shark became extremely special for conservationist when it became the first of its species to be satellite tagged in India. The effort will help tremendously in understanding the migration route, breeding and behavior pattern of the whale-sharks.

But even if the projects are tagged ‘mini- hydel ’, a large number of trees are being removed, to make way for these power projects. The biodiversity loss will be irrevocable.
