The Asiatic black bear is also known as the Himalayan black bear or moon bear. It is an omnivore but primarily a vegetarian. The bear prefers to eat fruits, nests of bees, insects, invertebrates, small vertebrates, and carrion. It is highly adaptable to the type of food available and will change it’s behaviour  as per the circumstances. For example, if raiding crops, a black bear will invade at night to ensure minimum contact with people. Asiatic black bears posses an acute sense of smell that lets them locate grubs and other insects up to 3 feet (approximately 1 meter) below the ground.
If food source is less, they have also been known to eat tree bark. Their favourite fruit is from the oak trees up the mountains.
