Researchers Find Rare Plant Species after 161 Years
Researchers studying the floral diversity of the Chandoli national park in the northern Western Ghats of Maharashtra have accidentally discovered a rare plant species’. The species was last seen in 1851 and was thought to be extinct.

Poachers to be Shot on Sight
It’s war in Maharashtra. The state government has sanctioned forest department officials to shoot on sight, poachers who are prowling in the tiger reserves, mainly to kill tigers. The strong move came after Maharashtra lost yet another tiger last week with the body of the animal chopped off and vital organs looted by poachers.

In a shocking incident, the mutilated body of a tiger has been found outside the Tadoba Tiger Reserve near Nagpur in Maharashtra. Poachers took away the head, paws and vital organs of the tiger, leaving behind a chopped off tail and other body parts stuffed in gunny bags dumped on a highway.
Endangered Fish Species Thrives again in Maharashtra River
The Mahseer or Deccan Mahseer is an indigenous species of fish which was found in the Indrayani river flowing in India’s western state of Maharashtra. The fish was last sighted 14 years ago until it disappeared due to excessive pollution of the waters and urbanization. But thanks to the efforts of a conservation organization, today the fishes have again made Indrayani their home.

Taking strict measures to save the small population of Great Indian Bustards in India, the Minsitry of Environment has banned the photography of the bird during breeding season which starts in April. The move has been made to give the rare birds a chance to nest peacefully.
4000 Acres of Tadoba Tiger Reserve reduced to ashes in a Forest Fire
A raging fire has gobbled up much of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. It is estimated that 4000 acres of the lush green habitat is now a vast black terrain without any trace of plant or animal life.
Maharashtra’s Biodiversity Revealed
