A Gene Bank for wild animals akin to humans is being proposed by the Government of Gujarat backed by the environment ministry, with a view to protecting Lions from inbreeding and eventual extinction. This project, a first for India is estimated to cost Rs. 67 crores.

Pangolin Rescued from a Well in Gujarat
A Pangolin trapped in a well, was rescued by a team of Gir Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park officials in Junagadh district of Gujarat. Pangolins are unique, rare mammals frequently sighted in the Gir forests. Once deemed endangered, the rare animals are now listed as Not Threatened by IUCN.
India’s First Research Centre for Marine Species and Marine National Park to come up in Gujarat
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) one of India’s biggest corporate led by Mukesh Ambani has tied up with Ministry of Environment and Forest to create a research facility in Gujarat state called “National Centre for Marine Biodiversity’ . This is the first ever research centre to be made in the Public-Private Patrnership (PPP) mode in the country.
